Poland Advances Plans for Permanent US Military Base
“Infrastructure preparation is progressing. In fact, the appropriate infrastructure is already being selected,” Nawrocki told Bloomberg Television.
He said reaching a final decision on the base was “only a matter of time” and voiced hope that construction could be completed before US President Donald Trump’s current term concludes in 2029.
“I hope that when work on the base is completed, President Trump will be able to personally attend the inauguration of ‘Fort Trump,’” Nawrocki said.
Nawrocki said funding arrangements still required resolution, noting that Poland would bear the expenses associated with its own security and the deployment of US forces.
The proposal for a permanent US military base in Poland was initially put forward by former President Andrzej Duda in 2018.
Trump said last week that “great progress” was being made toward creating a US Army base in Poland and indicated that its location could be revealed soon.
